The Main House
At the heart of the villa is an open-plan main house where high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass doors open straight onto the gardens and the ocean beyond. Three king-bedded master suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom, sit alongside a shared living area furnished with curated artwork and panoramic sea views. Bedrooms are generously sized with spacious bathrooms, and the front rooms look directly out at the water, guests routinely mention waking to the sound of waves rather than an alarm.
There's a large, fully equipped kitchen for anyone who wants to cook their own lunches, along with a communal dining table that becomes the natural gathering point of the villa. In practice most groups hand the cooking over to the chef and use the kitchen for making coffee at six in the morning before heading down to the beach.
The Garden Suites
A short walk through the gardens leads to two private pavilions, the Garden Suites, each with its own terrace, indoor-outdoor living space, and a bathroom finished in natural stone and timber. They suit couples, or anyone in the group who values a little extra seclusion, set slightly apart from the main house with the sound of the waves close by.
This split between main house and garden pavilions is one of Luna's quiet strengths for group travel: families can stay close together in the main building while couples or older guests take a pavilion, so nobody is negotiating over who gets the good room.
The Pool, Gardens and Beach
The gardens run down toward an 18-metre infinity pool finished in dark green stone, positioned so the water appears to spill straight toward the sand. It's a genuinely beautiful pool, the single thing guests photograph most, with sun loungers, a shaded cabana, and an open-air pavilion alongside that works equally well for sunrise yoga or sunset cocktails.
Beyond the pool, a private gate opens directly onto the white sand of Weligama Bay. The beach here is long, walkable and quiet at this end, and unlike much of Sri Lanka's south coast the water in front of the villa is good for swimming. Guests describe a routine that establishes itself within a day: coffee at six-thirty, a long beach walk, a surf or a swim, then breakfast around the communal table at nine. The fishing boats coming in at dusk are part of the view.
Dining and the Private Chef
Dining is the thing past guests write about most, and with reason. The resident chef builds menus around fresh local produce and the day's catch, Sri Lankan hoppers and fresh fruit for breakfast, fish, chicken or jackfruit curries, and international dishes for anyone who wants a change. Meals are served wherever suits: around the communal table, out on the terrace, or beside the pool as the light goes.
The kitchen also does the occasions properly. A seafood barbecue by the pool, complete with tiki torches, flower arrangements and candles, is a regular highlight, and the chef runs cooking classes for guests who want to take a bit of Sri Lanka home with them. For celebrations, the team has been known to arrange a private barman for sunset cocktails, lanterns through the gardens, and fireworks. Several guests note the food at Luna was better than anything they found in local restaurants, which, in an area with genuinely good places to eat, says something.
Wellness, Massage and Yoga
Luna has quietly become a place people come to reset. A resident masseuse visits most days, with treatments given under the shade of the palm trees, ocean breeze coming through and the sound of waves close by, guests describe the garden massage as one of the highlights of their stay. Yoga can be arranged, and the open-air pavilion beside the pool is a natural spot for a sunrise session.
Combined with the walkable beach, the pool and the fact that everything is handled for you, it makes Luna an unusually restorative stay, the sort of villa that works best as the last stop on a Sri Lankan itinerary, after the touring is done.

The staff, led by the house manager, are the reason these stays work. They arrange trips, massages, drivers and celebrations without being asked twice, and the villa's own tuk tuk means guests can get to the gym, a café or the surf without arranging anything. The owner, though usually off site, is consistently described as quick to respond to any question before or during a stay.
Where Luna Is, and What to Do Nearby
Luna sits at Pelena, on the quieter southern end of Weligama Bay, far enough from the centre to be peaceful, close enough that surf schools, yoga studios, cafés, gyms and local restaurants are all within an easy walk or a two-minute tuk tuk ride.
Weligama is the friendliest place in Sri Lanka to learn to surf, with gentle beach breaks and surf schools lining the bay, and the more serious reef breaks at Midigama are minutes away. Mirissa, a short tuk tuk ride west, is the south coast's hub for whale watching (blue and sperm whales, best from November to April) and for snorkelling with giant sea turtles, which several guests rate as the highlight of their week. Coconut Tree Hill and Mirissa's beach bars are there too.
Further afield, the colonial streets and ramparts of Galle Fort are around 40 minutes up the coast, Matara is close by to the east, and tea-estate tours and turtle hatcheries are all within reach of a day trip. But the honest truth, borne out by review after review, is that most guests plan more excursions than they take, Luna is the kind of villa you don't much want to leave.

The chief staff, Rangga was always available to attend to any request, making our stay seamless and enjoyable. The rest of the staff were equally amazing, delivering attentive and thoughtful service throughout.
Not to mention the gorgeous pool overlooking the beach — with direct beach access, it was the perfect spot to unwind between meetings. And of course, Jake the dog was the sweetest companion and brought so much joy to our group!

The experience starts when the gate opens to the small courtyard where the manager and some of the staff are waiting for you: at that moment you know that you’re going to experience something special.
Then you pass the little porch and discover the luxuriant garden, the beauty of the architecture and the sophistication combined that give you that sense of peace and comfort.
Everything at Luna has been thought with details in mind, style, and care.
It’s not opulence that I’m talking about, it’s chic.
The rooms are beautifully designed and there are patches of art everywhere. The dark green stone of the pool matches perfectly with the brown, green, grey and black you’ll find everywhere in the property.
Beyond what you see, there’s the experience: the staff is there to satisfy your needs and curiosity, and always with a smile. And the food, from Sri Lankan and Asian to Occidental is delicious: we tried several times the curries -the fish or chicken, or jackfruit ones- and they were all delicate and tasty (my mouth is watering just writing those words…).
By now I’m sure you understood that we very enjoyed our stay (we went with friends and family, kids included, as the house can fit around 10 people) and I highly recommend Luna Weligama while in Sri Lanka.
Our one week stay at Luna Villa with our 4 kids aged 16-22 was simply magical. Luna is an oasis of tranquility in Weligama, with its beautifully manicured grounds, huge beachfront infinity pool, and cavernous, thoughtfully designed ensuite bedrooms and outbuildings. The staff, managed by Ranga, were extremely courteous and helpful while remaining unobtrusive. Chef Lasanth prepared delicious meals which were far better than any local restaurants and hence we enjoyed a lot of both local and international cuisine at the Villa. The Seafood Barbecue was the highlight, complete with tiki torches, flower arrangements, and candles. Ranga was extremely helpful in suggesting and organising trips and massages for us. Snorkeling with giant sea turtles in Mirissa was the highlight of the week. The owner Glen, who was off site, was always accessible and replied quickly to any questions we had. He has created a truly special place. The proximity to the beaches and nightlife in both Weligama and Mirissa are ideal. Whether with family or friends I could highly recommend Luna Villa as a perfect way to decompress after touring Sri Lanka.
Back from 2 weeks at Villa Luna in Weligama. What can I say, incredible. One of the best pools, beachfront access for sunset and surfing. Villa comes with their own tuk tuk to take you to local gyms, cafes, restaurants, etc. we were looked after so well by Ranga the Villa manager and all the staff. Delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Stylish decoration, we loved our bedroom with sea views and spacious bathrooms. Didn’t want to leave!
We had an unforgettable stay at Luna to celebrate a 30th birthday. The property is breathtaking, surrounded by greenery and thoughtfully designed with care in every detail.
Ranga, the house manager, and the wider team were incredible. They truly went above and beyond to make our stay special - from arranging a private barman for sunset cocktails to lighting fireworks and placing lanterns in the gardens. Nothing was ever too much to ask.
The poolside BBQ was a highlight - the food was fresh, beautifully cooked, and perfect for the setting.

The amazing food prepared by a private chef was a highlight of our stay—every meal was exquisite. The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. The villa offered exceptional privacy and personalized service, making it feel like our own slice of paradise.
It’s undoubtedly one of the best stays I’ve ever had. The calm and serene surroundings provided the perfect setting to reset and recharge for the year.

Just had 4 wonderful nights at Luna Weligama. A well appointed property with all the details thought of and an amazing staff so all we needed to do was relax and enjoy the facilities. Highlights had to be the cooking class taken by the in house chef and the effort made for a birthday celebration.
I had the pleasure of staying at Luna Weligama for two weeks celebrating Christmas and the New Year with friends. What a wonderful choice. Let me start by talking about the compound staff. Always smiling, always ready to assist and the chef preparing the most amazing foods. If you stay, make sure you enjoy the Sri Lankan hoppers for breakfast Aand the fresh fish curry as often as you can.
Our day started with 6.30 coffee and a long walk along the Beach. We then surfed, swam in the pool, showered and enjoyed breakfast around the communal table at 9 o’clock. Some days we went out but many we spent purely at Luna. The resident masseuse coming most days to provide the most incredible massages under the shade of the palm trees with the ocean breezes and the sound of the waves lapping on the shore.
Everything about Luna was easy, personalised, and well thought through. The rooms were quiet, comfortable and beautifully appointed. The entire compound is put together with incredible thought and an absolute eye for detail. We will return for sure and I cannot thank the manager enough for making Christmas and New Year as special as it was.
We just spent a fabulous week at Luna Weligama with friends and couldn’t have asked for a better weeks’ break. The accommodation is impecable, the gardens beautiful and watching sunsets by that pool - breathtaking!
Despite our best intentions we ended up spending most of our time at Luna or swimming at the beach directly in front. Chef created such delicious meals everyday we didn’t want to leave!

A little paradise hidden behind a big wall.. the owners have created a wonderful property. The landscaping is lovely, materials used are high quality. The design is very stylish but sober. Given the size of the land, they have chosen to only accommodate small groups, adding to the feeling of privacy, exclusivity and space.
And then… there is a magnificent pool with unobstructed views of the ocean and the direct access to the beach for an early morning swim. Can’t wait to go back!

From the team welcome to the six star setting, the divine art-accented architecture - always on point - to the unbeatable setting, this exclusive beach resort is worth crossing the globe for. Move seamlessly from the chic pool with views on the palm strewn beach to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean at your doorstep, you’re in heaven. The area is on the move with great restaurants boosting the local offering, but without sacrificing the feeling you’re at a place yet to be fully discovered. This is our second stay and we will be back in September!
I very rarely write reviews. I don't want to have to rate everything all the time. -> Only if something is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. In this case, as the stars say, it was incredibly good. Willa Luna in Weligama was recommended to us by friends. As the perfect ending to our tour of Sri Lanka, we wanted to treat ourselves to a few relaxing days there. Our expectations were truly exceeded. It starts with the entire property, which seemed far too big for the four of us :D, a private pool, and private beach access. Breakfast was always served, and the bungalows were cleaned and the floors mopped every day. The whole team around Luna and Glen as hosts are helpful and welcoming. We felt at home, and every wish was granted. Weligama is a great place to take your first surfing lessons. It's located on the south coast of Sri Lanka and is not far from the lively towns of Mirissa and Matara. :) So, if you're planning a trip to Sri Lanka: be sure to check out Willa Luna, Weligama on Airbnb. It's really worth it!
Luna is truly an exceptionally, magical place. I have stayed here on three occasions and the location is idyllic: perfect ocean breezes from the pool, steps to a gorgeous long and very walkable beach, an easy walk to great cafes, restaurants, and “downtown Weligama” and a simple and fun tuktuk ride to Marissa.
The property is the perfect mix of gathering areas and private spaces, on meticulously groomed grounds. Swaying palm trees, and greenery everywhere.
The staff are absolutely out of this world, fresh fruit breakfasts with all the trims were the perfect way to start the day.
There is a large kitchen to prepare your own lunches or dinners, but we also took advantage of amazing Chef Nimal’s expertise and arranged for meals prepared expertly by him.
The rooms are gorgeous! Beautifully decorated and immediately whisk you away to a stress free vacation.
The hosts are the loveliest people, booking was very easy and everyone goes out of their way to ensure you have a perfect stay.
