Description

Just a few minutes from the Galle-Matara coastline road, Milky Way is located in the serene village of Ahangama. The property has two gorgeous houses, a 13-meter pool, and a tropical garden with Milky Way and coconut trees, deep-purple orchids, and huge ferns that has been tastefully planted.

The four-bedroom house at the entrance is a beautifully restored Sinhalese ancestral wallawwa. Its distinctive style is characterized by intricate floral fretwork along the eaves and windows, as well as a central frangipane tree-studded courtyard that opens up into a roomy open-plan living and dining area. The master bedroom is above, while three other bedrooms are on the bottom floor.

The second two-bedroom house has its own kitchen, dining area, and living room and is perched at the top of the garden, overlooking the pool. The large master bedroom is upstairs, while one of the bedrooms is on the bottom floor. With red roof tiles and ornamental white-washed latticing around the eaves, the garden house is constructed in the same vintage style as the main home.

The pool, which is surrounded by coconut and fragrant frangipane trees, is located on a terrace between the two homes. An exquisite, shaded seating area is located on one side and makes a lovely place to read, eat breakfast in the morning, or take afternoon tea. The profusion of bird, butterfly, and dragonfly life that abounds here is also something to behold from here.

Milky Way has been meticulously restored by the Sri Lankan owners to honor the original design while incorporating contemporary conveniences. The headman of the hamlet once owned the main home, and it is still customary for guests to bend their heads as they enter through the attractive entryway. The home is full of unique details and a visual treat for architecture enthusiasts, including a Hindu swastika in the entrance hall that represents prosperity and good fortune.

The endemic trees that can be found all across the garden gave it its name, "Kiripalu." They yield a tiny, sweet fruit with milk-colored liquid inside three times every year. The fruits are thought to provide numerous health benefits according to the ancient medical system of Ayurveda, and in Theravada Buddhism it is reported that the thirteenth Buddha attained enlightenment while sitting beneath one of them.
