Description

Ceylo Villa is a seven-bedroom colonial-style boutique villa in Induruwa, on Sri Lanka's south-west coast between Bentota and Kosgoda. Set just back from the beach among lush tropical gardens, it trades beachfront exposure for something arguably rarer: a genuine old-world atmosphere, all high-ceilinged rooms, traditional artwork and vintage furniture, in a house that feels like it has been there a long time. It can be booked room by room or taken exclusively as a whole villa, sleeping up to twenty guests, which makes it as suited to a couple wanting somewhere characterful as to a large family taking the entire house.

Two things make Ceylo unusually versatile. The first is that flexibility of booking, few properties on this coast let you take one room or all seven. The second is the location: Induruwa is roughly an hour from Colombo, close enough that Ceylo works for a weekend, a family gathering, or even a day function, while still feeling a world away from the city.

A House from Another Era A House from Another Era

A House from Another Era

The character of Ceylo is the reason people book it. High ceilings, deep verandahs, antique furniture and traditional Sri Lankan artwork give the house a calm, unhurried, colonial feel that no new-build can imitate. Guests consistently describe the interiors and architecture as the standout, "atmospheric" and "beautifully designed" are the words that come up again and again.

Because there are only seven rooms, the house never feels busy. Couples booking a single room describe an unusual sense of privacy for what is technically shared accommodation: no crowds, no noise, and generous sitting areas dotted through the house and grounds where you can be entirely on your own. Rooms come with crisp white linen, air conditioning throughout, and daily housekeeping.

Seven Bedrooms Across Four Room Types

Ceylo's seven ensuite bedrooms span four room types, so you can match the room to the guest, genuinely useful when booking by the room rather than taking the whole house.

The single Standard room is a comfortable, inviting space with a plush bed and a cosy armchair seating area, an easy choice for a solo traveller or anyone mainly there for the pool and the beach. The three Superior rooms step things up with a king-size bed, a sofa seating area and a generously sized ensuite bathroom. The two Deluxe rooms offer more space again, king beds, sofa seating, and an ensuite larger than the standard room. At the top sits the Suite, the villa's most indulgent room, with a king bed, sofa lounging area and a spacious ensuite.

All seven rooms are ensuite and air-conditioned, and every one keeps the villa's antique, high-ceilinged character. Rooms are large, guests repeatedly use the word "spacious" and extra beds can be arranged, so the villa has comfortably accommodated groups larger than its standard capacity at short notice.

The Pool, Gardens and Grounds

The Pool, Gardens and Grounds

The villa sits within lush tropical grounds where peacocks and other birds wander freely, the kind of setting where you wake to birdsong and lose whole afternoons doing very little. The gardens are large and beautifully kept by a resident gardener whom guests single out by name, with shaded verandahs that catch the breeze, quiet corners for a book, and room for children to run.

A swimming pool anchors the garden, framed by loungers and a shaded, covered dining area set up for long alfresco lunches and candlelit dinners as the light drops. It's a comfortable pool rather than an enormous one, children adore it and it's ideal for cooling off between the garden and the beach, and the pool area is deliberately set apart from the rest of the property, which gives guests real privacy while they're using it.

Dining, and a Kitchen You Can Use Dining, and a Kitchen You Can Use Dining, and a Kitchen You Can Use

Dining, and a Kitchen You Can Use

Ceylo is fully staffed and the food is one of its genuine pleasures. There's a resident chef who cooks to your preferences, from proper Sri Lankan rice and curry to international dishes, served indoors at the antique dining table or outside under the stars. Breakfast draws consistent praise, fresh fruit, toast, eggs cooked to order, and Sri Lankan breakfasts that guests describe as excellent. Barbecue dinners and buffet spreads can be arranged on request.

What sets Ceylo apart is how flexible the kitchen is willing to be. Groups regularly arrive with their own provisions and a menu they've put together, and the team simply cooks it. One family taught the kitchen their own style of cooking and used the kitchen as though it were their own. For extended families, diaspora groups returning home, or anyone with particular dietary requirements, that willingness is worth a great deal.

Service, Staff and Celebrations

Ceylo runs with a warm, long-serving team and a villa manager who guests name repeatedly. The service style is attentive without being formal: staff arrange tuk tuks, day trips, drivers and excursions, and there are stories in the reviews of the team going considerably further than required, including arranging a hospital visit for a guest who arrived unwell.

The team is also good at occasions. Groups have had barbecue buffets laid on at short notice and a full Sinhalese New Year celebration arranged for them. For larger parties, it's worth confirming staffing levels in advance when you book, a group of nineteen found two staff on duty stretched, and the villa is happy to arrange additional team members for big bookings if it's agreed beforehand.

Where Ceylo Is, and What to Do Nearby

Induruwa is one of the calmer, greener corners of the Bentota coast, a long golden beach and a well-known turtle-nesting stretch, with plenty on the doorstep. The beach is about 100 metres away, a two-minute walk across the road with a pedestrian crossing right at the end of the villa's lane, and it's clean, wide and largely empty.

The Kosgoda and Induruwa turtle hatcheries are minutes away, where you can watch conservation work up close and, in season, release hatchlings into the sea. Bentota, five minutes by tuk tuk — is the region's water-sports hub, with jet-skiing, boat trips and mangrove river safaris along the Bentota River. Culture is close at hand too: the hilltop Kande Viharaya Temple with its towering seated Buddha, Bevis Bawa's famous Brief Garden, and the coastal tradition of toddy tapping near Beruwala. The local railway station links easily up and down the coast toward Hikkaduwa and Galle.

Colombo is roughly an hour north, and Bandaranaike International Airport around ninety minutes, which makes Ceylo one of the easiest villas on this coast to reach on arrival, and one of the few genuinely practical for a short escape from the city.

Ideal For

Large family gatherings and groups of up to twenty taking the whole villa; couples and smaller parties booking by the room; celebrations and milestone occasions; and day functions or team gatherings from Colombo. Above all, it suits anyone who would rather stay somewhere with genuine character and calm than a glossy modern beachfront box.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Ceylo Villas in Bentota during the early week of April, easily a 5-star experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the level of service was exceptional, with the team genuinely caring about each and every one of us. The villa typically accommodates around 14 to 15 guests for a full booking, but what truly impressed us was their flexibility. Even at the last minute, when we informed them that three additional members would be joining, they arranged three extra beds without any hassle, allowing all 18 of us to stay comfortably.
A special thank you to Mr. Mangala, the villa manager, who was incredibly supportive and attentive in arranging everything we requested. His professionalism and warm approach made a big difference. Also, a big shoutout to Mr. Nuwan, who took care of all our needs in and around the property, always available and helpful. The food was great, a solid 8 out of 10, and we especially appreciated their effort in organizing a separate BBQ dinner buffet on request. As a key highlight, they even arranged a mini Sinhalese New Year celebration for us, which made the experience even more special and memorable.
The property itself is beautifully maintained and well landscaped, creating a relaxing and luxurious atmosphere. The pool area is thoughtfully separated, offering great privacy for guests who want to unwind peacefully. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team, even those whose names we may not remember, for making our stay truly memorable. We would highly recommend Ceylo Villas to anyone looking for a private, well-managed, and service-oriented villa experience in Bentota.

I stayed here with my boyfriend. A beautiful, peaceful hotel in colonial style, perfect for a quiet, private getaway. The atmosphere is very calm, and the small number of rooms really enhances the sense of privacy — no crowds, no noise.

The grounds are well maintained and very beautiful, a pleasure to spend time in at any hour. A lovely beach is within walking distance, which is a big plus — no need to plan transport.

The staff are exceptionally attentive and caring. Thanks to them, there was a rare feeling of true rest, privacy, and being genuinely looked after. I’m very grateful for the atmosphere they created.

I will definitely return and highly recommend this place.

A very atmospheric boutique hotel with stunning interiors and architecture. Relaxing atmosphere. Very tasty Sri Lankan breakfasts. Great location close to the turtle farm and Bentotta beach (five minutes by tuk-tuk). Snow-white linen, comfortable beds. Cleaning every day, if you don’t forget to leave the key at the reception. If we ever return to Sri Lanka, we will definitely come back. Thank you very much everyone!

Amazing place, really kind, helpful, friendly staff.
We organized a family trip kind of last minute and the villa was very accommodating. We booked all 7 rooms, they are very spacious and comfortable, there are nice sitting areas and a huge garden. The pool isn't so big but the kids enjoyed it to the max. Although the property is not by the beach, you can get there in 5 min, walking across the road. There's a zebra crossing right off the villa's road.
For food, we got all the rations and asked them to cook according to our menu we put together. We did feel service was a tad bit slow as there was only 1 or two people for a group of 19 pax, would have been nice for them to have an extra person. Samira and Nuwan were total rockstars! Always with a smile and ever ready to help.
We highly recommend this place, we had a memorable holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is a gorgeous villa- we were a large group of friends and we went with each of our families- we took all 7 bedrooms and we had the most memorable time at this property. The beach is only 100mts away- a 2 min walk from the property- the beach is also very clean and accessible. The villa has a beautiful pool where we hung out most of the time. The staff and the manager were very friendly and accommodating to all our requests- in fact, we used their kitchen like it’s our own and taught them our style of cooking. They kept the villa clean for us at all times and were always available.
We are very happy to have stayed at Ceylo Villas.
